South Africa 2011

Thirteen years since our last visit to South Africa, the changes are immediately apparent. In many rural areas, modern, well-built houses reflect an increasing affluence and the excellent toll highways carry a modern fleet of trucks and cars.

The real attraction of South Africa, however, lies in its landscapes, fauna and flora. Rather than write a diary I have chosen to select 10 photos which I feel sum up the essence of this trip.

1) Teaching the kids to appreciate Africa, and being rewarded by moments like this. I'd like to think they will remember this moment.

2) Sharing adventures (yes, its a looong fall!)

3) Experiencing nature close up. The small things are often those that end up meaning the most.

4) Having the privelege of experiencing eye contact with an elephant for the first time. They had right-of-way...we backed off slowly!

5) Eye contact 2. Nature unfiltered. A photographers "golden moment".

6) Early morning in Paradise, coffee in hand, kids still sleeping and a long sunny day ahead...

7) The boys - three generations wondering what's for lunch...

8) The girls - forging their special bond.

9) Giants Castle - when my time is up, please drop some of my ashes here ;-)

10) February 14, 2011 - our 23rd "anniversary"!
